If I could do it all over again I’m not sure I would. Looking back, I have no regrets. Everything I’ve failed at, learnt and/or experiencing has gotten me to where I am today. If I could meet the younger me I’d tell him to:
1 – Stop trying to please everyone
Give more than you take, especially with family and friends. See the best in people but bear in mind that not everyone sees life the way you do so always put your happiness in front of others that don’t care about your happiness,
2 – Don’t fear change
Things are going to change, it’s inevitable. Learn to embrace it don’t let it shape your future; the future you want is your choice. You are in charge of achieving your dreams and goals which means you are your biggest obstacle and obstacles are stepping stones to success. The bigger the obstacle the bigger the success, understand that failure is an essential stepping stone on the road to success. Don’t worry about anything that is outside your sphere of influence – if you can’t change it, don’t waste time worrying about it,
3 – Don’t live in the past
Whatever happens in the past is there for a reason, it either broke you or made you stronger. Don’t let it hold you back; use your past, which is experience, to avoid it in the future. Putting yourself down will only keep you from achieving what you want from life,
4 – Stop overthinking
Follow your dream, be ambitious – think big and take calculated risks,
5 – Have a few close friends who you see often
Their friendship matters more than shallow acquaintances,
6 – Don’t be held back, either by fear of lack of confidence
Go for it, despite these normal emotions that we all feel occasionally,
7 – Make a little time to be quiet by yourself every day and just be
Reflect on what has gone and what has to come. Encourage yourself to push forward.
Let your Intuition guide you, You are what you’ve been looking for
8 – Smile and laugh more than is considered normal
Smile at strangers, laugh whenever you can. It’s amazing medicine – laughter; and by smiling at absolute strangers I guarantee you just made their day or they thought there’s something wrong with you,
9 – Choose your job carefully
Do work that excites you. It is where you will spend so much of your time. Make a difference in people’s lives with your job,
10 – Pray daily
Allow you faith to guide you, Remember the verse:
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
11 – Put 10 percent of your income aside and give that money to those in need
Whether friends, the church or charities. You have the power to save lives,
12 – Don’t lend money, rather, give it
The universe is weird like that and if you give you will receive,
13 – Stay focused
You have this un-caning ability to show a huge amount of passionate interest in something and then in a split second you change direction or thoughts. Practice really hard to remain focused and on course and see one thing through before starting the next,
14 – Read, read, read
You don’t like novels so take a notebook along when you read cause when you do read it will encourage you, it will allow you to dream, it will cause you to make plans and sets goals but you will forget it all the minute you put the book down and have no notes to refer back too. You have greatness in you, we all do. You just have to manage it, let it out and achieve all you can,
15 – Say “why not?” rather than “why?”
Always tackle life with the answer and not the obstacle,
16 – The people to be nicest to in life are your wife and your children
Give them the most time, energy and love, and you will be happy because when the dust settles they are the ones left by your side,
17 – Spend more time with your family and less at work
No one on their deathbed says they wish they had spent more time on the job,
18 – You have two ears and one mouth – use them in proportion
Listen twice as much as you speak,
19 – Embrace the seven wonders of the world
To See, To Hear, To Touch, To Taste, To Feel, To Laugh, To Love
20 – Existence is not success; it is a lot more
• Do more than exist – Live
• Do more than touch – Feel
• Do more than look – Observe
• Do more than read – Absorb
• Do more than hear – Listen
• Do more than listen – Understand
Live your life, Do what makes you happy and Dream Big
