What is Empathy?
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another
Types of Empathy
- Affective Empathy – the ability to respond to other people’s emotions appropriately
- Somatic Empathy – the ability to feel what another person is feeling
- Cognitive Empathy – the ability to understand someone’s response to a situation
So why teach empathy to your kids?
Helping kids to develop a strong sense of empathy is beneficial:
- It helps them to build a sense of security and stronger relationships with other – kids, teachers and coaches; positioning them well for learning, mentoring and coaching,
- It promotes good mental health,
- It encourages tolerance and acceptance of others.
I’m sure there’s more reasons but as promised I’m keeping this short and sweet.
