It truly depends on how you will us it and where you will use it.
If your plan is to pitch a tent in the Drakensberg on the middle of July then no, you don’t need a top of the range bag.
That doesn’t mean you should compromise on quality. The mistake many people make is to buy a bag that’s too warm – high tech construction plus top quality insulating material, equals expensive bag.
For a good all-round sleeping bag, look for something that is rated between 0 and 5’C and big enough for you to roll over in.
If you’re using it for hiking, you’re going to spend a little more. Look for a mummy shaped sleeping bag as it packs smaller, also making sure it’s light.
Hot tip: Don’t roll your sleeping bag when packing it away. Stuff it, it’ll change your life, especially if you are hiking and camping in cold, wet climates.
