I read it in a book and saw it on a Youtube video
Start off by making your bed. If you made your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride..
Admiral William H. McRaven
And I started doing it, before I did anything for my day I would make our bed and it feels quite good actually.
No matter what I/we planned for the day, whether we do what we intended for the day or not, I already completed a task, something on my ‘to do list’ – I MADE OUR BED!!
It’s been said that if your day was crap, like you just had the worse day ever, walking into your room and seeing a neatly made bed fills the body with dopamine, that ‘feel good’ drug and it lifts your crap mood immediately.
I’ve been doing this for a while now and I can honestly say that the feelings are true. Doing it first thing in the morning and ticking if off feels amazing but getting into a neatly made bed at night also feels even better.
Just putting your head down on the pillow, lying on the pressed sheet and pulling the covers over your naked body, yes I sleep naked, it’s just an amazing feeling.
We have been trying to instil this habit into our boys and when they asked why this was the explanation we gave them.
Making your bed in the morning will give you a task already completed for the day, which sets you up for completing more tasks during the day. And if your day doesn’t go as planned you have a neatly made bed to go sleep in, you can forget the whole day, reset and start fresh the next morning.

So many of us have things we want to do, stuff we need to accomplish, a ‘to do list’ for the day. Start by making your bed – That’s one task complete.
